(With extra pictures) On Friday 15 April, the Ovation of the Seas arrived at the Wilhelminakade of the Cruise Port Rotterdam as part of its maiden voyage.

The 347 metre long and 41.4 metre wide cruise ship arrived in Rotterdam from Southampton to which it also departed again on the same day. The ship is owned by American ship owner Royal Caribbean and was recently delivered by the Meyer Werft, Papenburg, Germany. The Ovation of the Seas can accommodate 4905 passengers.

Cruises in China

From Southampton the cruise ship will make a number of short cruises before leaving for Tianjin, China, which will be its home port. Starting in June, the Ovation of the Seas will offer cruises in China together with four of Royal Caribbean Cruises' other ships.

Harmony of the Seas

The Ovation of the Seas is the little "sister" of the Harmony of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, which will arrive in Rotterdam on 24 May. This year, Rotterdam expects to welcome a total number of cruise ships of 62.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority invited SWZ Maritime editor Hugo Dill aboard mv De Nieuwe Maze to welcome the Ovation of the Seas to Rotterdam. You find the pictures he took in the album below. Please click the pop-out link to view the pictures in their proper dimensions.
