In recent weeks, Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) has pressed for budget for the maritime sector in the new Horizon Europe programme in both The Hague and Brussels.

On 12 April, NMT participated in a discussion with the Dutch Ministries of Education, Culture and Science (ECS), Economic Affairs and Infrastructure and Water Management about the position of the maritime sector in the new EC programme Horizon Europe. The meeting followed a letter from the sector to Minister Van Engelshoven (ECS), urging that the maritime sector be given its own place and budget within the new European knowledge and innovation programme. Horizon Europe offers companies the opportunity to develop their knowledge and innovations together with partners from the Netherlands and Europe and to receive funding for this.

In the coming weeks, representatives of the sector will continue to vigorously bring their wishes and arguments for a budget for the maritime sector to the attention of the European Commission as well as representatives of the Dutch government.
