Innovative inland navigation projects that reduce fuel consumption and emissions can now get financial support from the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The port authority has launched an incentive scheme to this effect.

Applications to the “Clean Inland Shipping and Sustainable Logistics in Rotterdam” incentive scheme can be submitted to the Expertise and Innovation Centre for Inland Navigation (EICB) until 10 January 2020. The maximum contributions are 25 per cent for eligible research projects and 75 per cent for projects aimed at concrete implementation of tangible demonstrations. A total of half a million euros is available.

An independent Innovation Council will assess the proposals submitted. Ranking will take place on the basis of the expected environmental return (reduction of fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and air emissions) per euro invested in the initiative until 2025.
