The world’s largest aluminium sailing yacht, 81-metre Sea Eagle II, has been launched in Amsterdam. The yacht left Royal Huisman’s building dock in Vollenhove on a pontoon on 10 January for tight-fitting transport to the yacht builder’s Amsterdam facility.

To reach the Amsterdam facility, the yacht had to pass several small bridges, including the Vollenhover, Ramspol and Kadoeler bridges. The transport had to be navigated through the bridges with sometimes just centimetres to spare. To pass the Kadoeler Bridge, for example, a part of the bridge had to be lifted out. The bridge itself was open and had to be pushed back further than normal using a crane.

The yacht finally hit the water on Thursday 16 January. Royal Huisman now plans to install the yacht’s three carbon Panamax masts this week, depending on suitable weather conditions. The yacht is to be delivered to the owner this spring.
