The Dutch naval vessel HNLMS Karel Doorman will begin its return journey in little more than a week after having provided support in fighting the corona crisis in the Caribbean. The ship can return earlier than planned because the coronavirus in the area is sufficiently under control according to the Ministry of Defence.

The ship left the Netherlands on April 24th and originally was to stay for three months. The ship has helped with, among other things, the transport of the sick, surveillance and the preservation of public order. The supply and support vessel will arrive in Den Helder’s home port on 26 June.

A blemish on the deployment was the fact that an officer of the ship was arrested because of a vice incident. Four reports were made. The case is under investigation.
