The Zuid-Holland Zuid Safety Region has forewarned Oceanco in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, with a EUR 10,000 fine after an illegal party that took place on 23 October on a ship along the quay of the company. The partygoers did not comply with the corona measures.

The Safety Region has imposed a cease and desist order. In the event of a subsequent breach, the company will have to pay the fine.

When the police wanted to end the party, some of those present threw chairs and glasses at the officers. Two policemen were slightly injured as a result. 5 people were arrested. It later transpired that 1 of the partygoers had been infected with the coronavirus, which meant that 10 policemen had to be quarantined at home.

‘This kind of partying only prolongs the measures and increases the pressure on the health care in our region,’ says Wouter Kolff, chairman of the Zuid-Holland Zuid Safety Region. He points out that his region ranks third in the number of national infections. ‘Against this background it is unacceptable that such meetings take place.’

Kolff announced last week that the Safety Region will step up monitoring of compliance with the measures.
