Rear Admiral René Tas is to become the new Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy. On 9 September, he will assume command of the navy as Vice Admiral. He takes over from Vice Admiral Rob Kramer, who is retiring.

Tas will be tasked with keeping the navy on course for the next four years. The design principles from the Defence Vision 2035 are leading.

Secretary-General Gea van Craaikamp calls Tas rational, energetic and effective. ‘Tas enjoys working with a team to achieve results, provides situational management of both relationship and content, and has a keen eye for influences from the surroundings. He has proven this during his intensive operational career at various levels, as an (operational) commander and in administrative positions.’

Tas’ career in Defence began in 1982, at the Royal Naval Institute.
